Review | OCEANTEE Bamboo Golf Tees

A golf tee that is good for the planet.

OCEANTEE is a company striving to make golf better and bring about positive changes in the game, especially when it comes to sustainability and the environment.

It starts with tees and cutting down on the use of plastics, that all too often end up in our oceans.

The premium bamboo golf tees by OCEANTEE are an ‘environmentally superior alternative’ to plastic and traditional wooden tees, according to the company’s founder Ed Sandison, a marine biologist and golf obsessive.

We tested these tees across a round at Alnmouth Village Golf Club, England’s oldest nine-hole links, on a cold February afternoon.

First impressions, the tees are beautifully boxed in packaging that is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) approved. We tested the long pegs, which measure 70mm or 2 and ¾ inches, ideal for teeing up driver.

They’re lightweight and look like any other white wooden golf tee, with the exception of OCEANTEE’s logo printed into the tee cup. It’s a little touch of class.

Realistically, how much can you say about the performance benefits of a golf tee. These tees don’t claim to add yards, increase or decrease spin rates or reduce friction.

They perform exactly how you’d want them to. If there is a question over the OCEANTEE bamboo golf tees, it’s durability. I broke five tees hitting driver on first use.

It’s not a big deal, especially given the trade off with using a product that is sustainably sourced and made from a material that is friendlier to the environment.

OCEANTEE says that bamboo absorbs more carbon dioxide and releases on average 30% more oxygen than other plants species.

As golfers, we are fortunate to enjoy beautiful green spaces and natural environments. Using bamboo golf tees and wearing clothing manufactured from sustainable fabrics or recycled from plastic waste is a good starting point to paying it forward.

OCEANTEE pegs are available in regular, long or castle styles. You can buy boxes of 40 in your preferred style or a mixed collection for £3.99 in the UK or around $5 US.

To draw on a real world example, change starts slowly and plastic straws are no longer an acceptable option in our fast-food, catering and hospitality industries.

If you’re looking to live more sustainably and want to take that to the golf course, then OCEANTEE pegs and products are a must to carry in your golf bag.

OCEANTEE is also an official sustainability supplier to the DP World Tour.
